Waruga Ancient Tomb
The Village ImageWaruga are ancient stone sarcophagi of the Minahasa people in North Sulawesi, consisting of a stone box and a gabled lid used to bury the deceased in a seated fetal position, with carvings that reflect the identity or status of the person inside; although most waruga sites today are concentrated in Minahasa Utara such as Airmadidi and Sawangan, several are also found in Tomohon, including a notable waruga located directly in front of the Kinilow Village Office (Kantor Lurah Kinilow), serving as a visible reminder of Minahasa’s ancestral traditions and an important piece of local cultural heritage.   (bp)
